South Twin Lake is a
freshwater dimictic, eutrophic lake connected
to North twin Lake by a shallow channel. The
lake is surrounded by forested slopes and
agricultural land. The drainage area is used
for cattle grazing. On the eastern shore are
numerous cabins and three resorts.
South Twin Lake receives water
from South Twin Inlet. The outflow is through
the spillway channel into Stranger Creek. The
lake supports abundant growths of aquatic
macrophytes.
South Twin Lake is a popular
fishery with a similar fish assemblage to that
found in North Twin Lake. Rainbow and brook
trout are popular game fish and are abundant in
the lake. Largemouth bass, golden shiners,
redside shiners, and bridgelip suckers are also
present. The following link contains a summary
of the 2003 South Twin Lake fishery
sampling period.
